My hands are vital to my practice as a sculptor and they’re plagued by chronic pain, stiffness, and debilitating numbness. Poor circulation in my extremities exacerbates my symptoms, and when the pain is too much, or the numbness sets in, I am forced to rest until I recover. The glass shifts between red-violet, blue violet, and icy blue, depending on the surrounding light. Each color signifies the progression from warm and functional to ice cold and numb. Rusty barbed-wire wraps around the open hand and wrist, trapping it within a prison of pain and dysfunction until my sentence has been served.
