This is it! Tonight is the opening for my solo thesis exhibition, “Invisible, Not Imaginary”. This is the culmination of my work for the past year and then some. This show marks the end of my journey as an undergraduate studio arts major, and I’ll be walking across the stage on December 14th to receive my diploma. Here is my first neon piece. It’s made this in January when our glass club @csusbglass all took a neon workshop @museumofneonart earlier this year. This piece includes neon gas along with a very small amount of mercury. When the mercury heats up, the vapors change the color of the neon from red to blue, so this work starts out red, but slowly turns blue from either end, eventually meeting in the middle. I’m so thankful to my fellow club members. We all worked hard to raise the funds for this workshop and it paid off! Today, May 12th, is International Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. Since I was diagnosed at 22 years old, I did not speak about my chronic pain because of the negative stigma that surrounds those with fibromyalgia. In my recent body of work, I’ve been talking about my experience with Fibromyalgia. My thesis show this November will feature artworks that attempt to express what it feels like to live in a chronically ill body that is always in pain. Currently, “The Pathways of Pain”, a cast glass sculpture that I just completed, is on display at the Robert and Francis Fullerton Museum of Art through June 6th. For the past couple of days, I’ve been working on a piece that I started last Fall when I was at Pilchuck. I was gifted the wax from a mold that @wallooce had made during our workshop with @sallydonuts She got a couple of dings during my trip home, and as I considered attempting to repair them, I decided to do the opposite. Instead, I began diagraming the pathways of my pain. My obsession with hand sculpted elements takes its toll on my hands, so I work slowly.
